Banneker Adventures

In 2007, BBCPS began what would become our school’s Adventure Club.  Starting small with winter ski and snowboard trips, we immediately saw the benefits of outdoor education and began adding different trips throughout the school-year.   We believe that outdoor education is integral in teaching the whole child.  Some of our main goals are to :

  • learn to overcome adversity & embrace challenges
  • build teamwork & leadership skills
  • boost self-confidence & stretch comfort zones
  • participate in experiential learning
  • improve problem solving skills

Now in our 17th year, we offer a variety of trips to our 5th and 6th grade students.  Trips are introduced to students in class and every student has the opportunity to sign up.  Once interest permission slips have been collected, names are chosen at random to fill in our roster (trip sizes vary) and students are notified.  They will attend a pre-trip informational meeting where they will learn what to expect, what to wear, and what to bring.  An informational email will also be sent to parents.
